I worship with a lot of people who are my “friends” on my facebook wall. We don’t all go to the same church. We don’t belong to the same party and we don’t agree on all things and we definitely don’t agree on anything political. What we have in common, is an affirmative response to the same scriptures, in service to the SAME God. What baffles me the most about the people who are the most influential change-makers in the world, is their continuous and expected silence during times of conflict and injustice in our nation.
Everyone is so afraid of saying the wrong thing or anything at all for that matter and they remain silent. What is there to lose? A scripture quote or a condemnation of an act against humanity is God’s thing. Yet, God’s people always choose silence.
How can we profess to be each other’s keepers when the only time and place believers are comfortable supporting each other, is in the hallways of the church building? It’s hurtful and shameful that the church is either in agreement with the wrongs against the innocent, attacks against the vulnerable, ruthless comments against citizens by their silence. It’s uncertain if they are against it because their silence is louder than their spoken words.
I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ and I’m not afraid to stand before this social media platform to ask, “Who is on the Lord side?”
Because I serve a God that hate, division, and silence must surrender to!
