I was introduced to volunteer work in high school when I served homeless families a Thanksgiving meal one cold winter evening. For the first time, it was revealed to me for the first time that the level of poverty existed in the net unit in the United States.
I never believed that poverty exists in the United States at that level since that time I had served at pregnancy aid centers crisis so rape centers volunteering at various capacities in my community and all of the time has led me to do for an organization Carried To Full Term providing pregnant women in crisis with housing in an attempt to break cycles of poverty.
The program requires women to get a job. They are also required to attend classes on managing their finances to get rid of debt. Mothers are also required to save money for the future and for housing decisions. Mothers are not required to pay rent during their time in the program. However, they are required and show evidence of financial planning for the future. Women are also required to make their own breakfast. If a mother isn’t sure how to cook, help is brought in to introduce her to proper nutritional options.
Women are also required to serve and give back to the community through volunteerism. Classes are also offered to help women prepare to take care of the children. Additionally, parenting other life skills classes and it’s also designed to help women continue the education which maybe includes finishing high school and we’re getting into technical or community college programs.
