All it takes to make a difference is action. In 2016, I opened Carried To Full Term (CTFT) a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization to provide long-term housing for women in crisis as a result of pregnancy. Our goal is to equip pregnant and homeless women with the tools to become independent and self-sufficient. Pregnancy is not the only challenge mothers face.
After years of observing women share that they needed options to live in tents, in their cars, and sleeping on friend’s couches and park benches, something had to be done. In 2011, I set out to find someone who was doing this work in our area. NOt being able to find one, I started this idea to help house women in my family’s basement. There are various factors that lead to homelessness such as fleeing abuse from parent’s home, loss of income, abuse, relocation, aging out of the foster care system, divorce, and abandonment.
